Laser Treatment for Stretch Marks – Does It Really Work?

There are different opinions as to whether or not laser treatment for stretch marks really works. Some scientific study concludes that there is no evidence that supports the theory that laser surgery can in fact eliminate stretch marks. Others, on the other hand, believe that laser surgery cannot eliminate stretch marks totally but it can effectively reduce its appearance to the point of not being visible at all. And some doctors will tell you that laser surgery will totally remove stretch marks to look as if they were never there to start with.

Whatever science and medical research will prove, however, there have been thousands of patients who have undergone laser treatment for stretch marks and swear that the procedure has been very effective in eliminating their unsightly scars. This is precisely the reason why laser surgery has been rising in popularity lately in regards to reducing and eventually eliminating stretch marks.

Stretch marks appear due to excessive stretching of the skin, which may be caused by rapid weight gain, growth spurt, bodybuilding, and pregnancy. The skin is naturally elastic but it is meant to only stretch so far. Once the skin is stretched beyond its elasticity limit, damage occurs in the deepest layer of the skin. Although the outer surface of the skin remains intact, there are visible thin lines that seem to be discolored and striated. These scars are what are commonly known as stretch marks.

Stretch marks are quite permanent, which cannot be eliminated by creams alone since they are scars deep within the skin area. Creams may help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and help keep the skin moisturized but it can only do that much.

The theory behind laser treatment for stretch marks is actually not that complicated. The laser beam, light, or energy, as they call it, is known to disintegrate the damage cells in the deep layers of the skin and at the same time stimulate the production of collagen. Once the damage tissues are removed, the new collagen produced in the procedure fills up the void caused by the eradication of the damaged cells. Since there are no surgical incisions performed in the procedure, there is no pain associated with the treatment.

It will take a couple of treatments to effectively erase stretch marks from your skin. The number of visits you will make to your doctor’s office will depend on the age and intensity of the scars. The deeper and older the scars are; the more treatment or procedures you will need. Expect that your skin would be a little tingly and pinkish around the area that has been treated after the first few days of post-treatment. After a couple more procedures, the thin white lines will darken and improve in appearance. There should be no bruising and swelling experienced during or after the process.

For those who have deep stretch marks however, even the best doctors will admit that laser surgery will not be able to make the skin look 100% normal. There will be slight appearances of scars left. But for those who are suffering from scars that are relatively new and not quite deep, laser treatment for stretch marks may be able to get your skin to look as if stretch marks were never even there.

Stretch Mark Removal Cream Homemade Recipe

Believe it or not, there is a stretch mark cream you can easily make at home that can work as well as the most expensive stretch mark creams available in the market today. The effectiveness of a stretch mark removal cream depends solely on what the cream is made of – not the cost or the brand of the cream. The cream should contain natural and medical components that will be able to effectively moisturize the skin, stimulate cell regeneration, and increase the production of collagen. Undoubtedly, you will be able to find creams that have all these ingredients. But why would you want to spend hundreds of dollars on branded creams when you can make it yourself easily at home saving you hundreds of dollars a month.

Here are the ingredients you will need:
- 1/4 cup cocoa butter
- 1 tbsp wheat germ oil
- 1 medium sized lemon
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp apricot kernel oil
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil (or 2 capsules of vitamin E)
- 2 tsp beeswax beads
- 2 Capsules of Vitamin A
- Double Boiler

History shows that cocoa butter has been and still is the most popular moisturizer used in reducing stretch marks. Almost all effective stretch mark creams have cocoa butter as an active ingredient. Cocoa butter is known to keep the skin moisturized for a longer period and it helps in cell rejuvenation.

Lemons, milk, and vitamin A are natural sources of AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) which have been used for centuries in skin rejuvenation.

Sesame oil, germ oil, apricot kernel oil, and Vitamins E on the other hand contain retinol and other essential oil substances that help increase the production of collagen.

Preparation Instructions:

Combine and mix all the ingredients mentioned above and pour the mixture on the top part of the double boiler. Fill the bottom part with water and leave to boil on a stovetop over medium heat.

When the water is boiling, stir the mixture gently until the cocoa butter and beeswax are completely melted. This would take about 5-8 minutes to complete.

Turn off the heat and remove the boiler from the stove. Continue mixing the cream until it has cooled down. Transfer the mixture in a jar that is equipped with a tight lid. Do not put the lid on the jar until the mixture has completely cooled off.

This recipe will give you about 4 ounces of homemade stretch mark removal cream. This will last you about 1 month depending on the extent of the skin area you will need to apply the concoction to.

Application Instructions:

Use the homemade cream sparingly. Too much of the cream will clog the pores which will cause more harm than good. Dab a little amount in the whole affected area with your fingers and massage the area in a circular motion. Do this at least 3 times a day and try to make it a daily regimen. Be consistent in applying the cream and do not miss a day, doing so will set you back considerably. After a couple of days, there would be a significant improvement of the appearance of your skin

If your scars are new and shallow, this homemade stretch mark removal cream may be able to eliminate  the scars in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, for deep and old scars, there are no creams that will be able to eliminate them totally but the cream you have concocted will reduce its appearance and moisturize your skin to prevent more stretch marks to appear.

Stretch Mark Removal Surgery – Know Your Options

There are 2 kinds of stretch mark removal surgery – cosmetic surgery and laser surgery. With both of these methods, there are pros and cons that have to be dealt with. So before you decide as to which of these procedures is the best solution to get rid of those irritating and embarrassing scars, it is advisable that you know exactly what you are getting into.

Many creams in the market today claim that they can effectively erase stretch marks. You may have even tried a few to no avail. Creams and lotions may be able to reduce the visibility of the scars but none as of date has been reported to totally get rid of stretch marks. This is because stretch marks are caused by tearing of the skin fibers and no creams will be able to replace the damage skin tissue no matter how long you have been applying the treatment to the affected area. What creams can do though, is to stimulate the production of collagen that helps minimize the appearance of the scars, and keep the skin moisturized to prevent further damage to the skin.

With surgery on the other hand, you may be able to get the results you desire immediately. However, there are consequences that you have to live with after the procedure.

Let us now get into an in-depth analysis of the kinds of stretch mark removal surgery:

Laser Surgery:

This kind of procedure is the less invasive and less painful of the 2 surgeries. However, it does take a couple of visits to your doctor before the treatment is completed.

There is practically no pain associated in the process since you will not be undergoing any surgical incisions. Your doctor will be using a laser beam that will penetrate the skin’s surface. This beam or light is said to perform a disturbance in the particles of the scarred tissues, which would cause them to break up into microscopic particles that would disintegrate on their own. Once those dead tissues are removed, there would now be room for new cells, elastin, and collagen to develop. It has also been reported that laser surgery enhances the stimulation of collagen, which develops from the bottom up. This fills up the void that is left from the disintegration of the dead cells.

Laser surgery has also been known to stimulate cell regeneration, which is a natural way of the skin to heal itself. The recovery period from this kind of surgery does not take long at all since there are no physical cuts to the skin.

Unfortunately, laser surgery is only effective in eliminating newly formed stretch marks. It may be able to reduce the appearance of old and deep scars but it will not be able to get rid of them altogether. So be wary of surgeons who claim that laser surgery can eliminate the deepest and oldest of scars. These doctors are not being truthful, so you might want to seek elsewhere for a more professional treatment.

Cosmetic Surgery – Tummy Tuck

So far, there is only one part of the body where a surgeon can perform stretch mark removal surgery – in the lower abdominal part of the body. There is no cosmetic surgery for stretch marks yet known to date that can eliminate the scars that are visible on the other parts of the body like the thighs, buttocks or breasts. That is why cosmetic surgery for stretch marks is also known as a tummy tuck.

Tummy tuck or what is medically called “Abdominoplasty” is performed generally to remove unwanted fat from the abdominal area. Nowadays, it is increasing in popularity as the most effective way to remove stretch marks in the tummy area.

The procedure involves making an incision between the navel and the pubic area right above the pelvic bone. So it is still possible to hide the scar wearing a bikini – hence the term “bikini cut”. After the cut has been made, excess fat, skin and dead tissues are removed and the weakened muscles will be repaired. The remaining skin would then be pulled taut and sewn back together. There definitely would be a scar after the wound has healed but if your surgeon was any good, the scar would be hardly visible. And whatever is left of the scar should be low and small enough that it can be hidden even with a skimpy bikini.

Just like any kind of surgery that involves incisions, there are risks that have to be taken into account. These risks should not be taken lightly since they range from allergic reactions to even death in some cases.

The recovery period of cosmetic surgery can take as long as 2 weeks. There will be relative pain involved after the procedure and it would be difficult to stand up let alone walk in the first couple of days.

These are your 2 options if you are considering stretch mark removal surgery. If your scars are considerably new and are not that deep, then laser surgery is your best bet. If you have deep and old stretch marks on the other hand, cosmetic surgery is the only way to get rid of them as long as the marks are located in the lower abdomen area of your body. As for the cost, as expected laser surgery would cost less but it may still set you back a couple of thousand dollars before the treatment is completed.

Stretch Mark Surgery – How Effective it Really Is and More

Stretch mark surgery is the most effective method known to date that can remove stretch marks successfully. Stretch mark creams may be able to reduce the visibility of the scars but it is impossible for them to eliminate them totally.

Generally, stretch marks develop during periods of sudden weight gain, rapid growth, and usually after pregnancy. When the skin is stretched during these periods, it is quite difficult for it to accommodate its expanding form. When the skin is stretched beyond its limit, it causes damage to the thin fibers of the skin thus forming scars and discoloration.

As mentioned earlier, stretch mark creams may be able to reduce the appearance of such unsightly scars. But if you want a more aggressive and thorough approach to eliminate stretch marks, surgery might just be able to do the job.

Before making your final decision as to which kind of surgery is the best treatment for your, here are some factors that should be considered.

1. Be informed that cosmetic stretch mark surgery cannot be performed in any part of the body other than the lower abdomen. So if your stretch marks are located on your legs, chest, or butt area, your only option is to undergo laser surgery.

2. The most common form of stretch marks are formed after pregnancy. 80% of pregnant women get them and the lucky ones have probably exercised stretch mark prevention by keeping their skin moisturized on the onset of their pregnancy stage. If you are considering surgery at this point, assess the severity of the scars. If they are relatively new and not too deep, then laser surgery will be enough. If the scars are deep and have been there for some years then the only way to eliminate them is through cosmetic surgery or what is commonly known as a tummy tuck.

A tummy tuck can only be effective, though, if there is extra skin that can be removed. If your skin on the abdominal area is taut, then cosmetic surgery can only do so much.

3. In a tummy tuck, the procedure entails removing excess skin, fat, and repairing weakened muscles. After which the remaining skin is then sutured back together, leaving a small scar just above the pelvic bone. Be aware that just like any other surgeries, risks are involved. It takes about 2 weeks to totally recover from the treatment and since it is a cosmetic procedure, your health insurance usually does not cover it

4.  Once you have decided to undergo cosmetic stretch mark surgery, make sure that the surgeon who will operate on you is board certified and has an impeccable track record. Check with  the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and the Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) to confirm that they are indeed certified cosmetic surgeons. Ask your dermatologist to refer a surgeon who specializes in tightening and skin removal procedures.

5.  If you have decided on the best cosmetic surgeon in your area, do not hesitate to ask about everything you need to know about the procedure. Ask him what to expect of the treatment – what happens before, during and after the procedure. Check with his past patients and ask to be shown his patients’ before and after cosmetic stretch mark surgery.

6.  Follow your surgeon’s instructions for pre and post-surgery care to ensure that you get the best results. You might be asked to take some prescribed medications before surgery and some antibiotics and painkillers after the procedure. Recovery time for cosmetic surgery usually takes a couple of weeks. This kind of surgery is a major procedure so there will be pain and soreness involved following surgery. It is expected that you will be back to normal within 2 to 3 weeks.

Stretch Marks Removal – Is it Possible to Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

There are three main stretch marks removal methods available to those who suffer from these unsightly scars – Stretch mark creams, laser surgery, and cosmetic surgery. Unfortunately, not all these methods can successfully eliminate stretch marks. They may be able to reduce the appearance of the scars to the point of not being as visible as before. But so far, the only proven method in totally eliminating stretch marks is through cosmetic surgery.

Stretch marks are caused by skin scarring brought about by abrupt weight gain and weight loss. This occurs during pregnancy where the skin in the abdomen area is stretched beyond its limit; it may also occur during puberty where the body experiences a spurt growth. Obesity and bodybuilding have also been known to be major causes of stretch marks. During these instances, the dermis of the skin is stretched over its limit causing damage to the skin’s small fibers. As these heal, they develop into scars, which can be deep and purple in appearance.

The most popular treatment for stretch marks nowadays is stretch mark creams. Most of these creams are advertised to help not only reduce the appearance of the scars but also to eliminate them altogether. Of course, there are creams that can help minimize the appearance of stretch marks and at the same time keep your skin moisturized. However, to date, it is quite impossible to totally get rid of stretch marks with creams alone.

Creams that have cocoa butter, germ oil, lanolin, and aloe help in keeping the skin moisturized and improve its elasticity. With these components, the visibility of the scars is considerably reduced by repairing the collagen and elastin stimulation of your skin. AHA (alpha hydroxyl acids), vitamin A, and retin A stimulates cell rejuvenation, which may help significantly in replacing damage cells, which you can exfoliate to make your skin look less scarred.

Laser surgery, on the other hand, works better that creams in the sense that it increases the production of collagen. The new collagen produced fills up the skin bottom up forcing the damaged cells upwards and fills up the void that has been caused by the scars. The laser surgery procedure takes a couple of treatments until your scars are reduced significantly. In the first treatments, there may be signs of swelling and bruising in the treated area. This happens simply because new skin cells are developing over the area.

As mentioned earlier, the most effective method in eliminating stretch marks is cosmetic surgery. Sad news is cosmetic surgery for stretch marks can only be done on the lower abdominal area of the body. There has not been any reported surgical method yet that can get rid of stretch marks that are visible in the other parts of the body. This procedure is done exactly as how they do tummy tucks. With this surgery, excess skin is removed from the stomach area and the remaining portion of the skin is pulled taut thus getting rid of all signs of damages on that area of the skin.

These are the different stretch marks removal methods. Stretch mark creams of course are the least costly of the three. Be informed, however, that creams can only get you so far in treating those scars. However, with the right ingredients, they can help reduce the scars’ visibility and keep your skin moisturized preventing further damage in the future.

Stretch Marks Remover – The Most Effective Treatment For Stretch Marks

Stretch marks remover- Stretch marks is a part of human life. Unknown to many, it is caused by major 2 factors- weight gain and hormonal imbalance. These scars cannot go unnoticed since they can be quite unsightly. It is to no surprise, therefore, that there are so many stretch marks removal products and procedures available in the market today. Unfortunately, with the many stretch mark creams available, only a few of them are actually effective and most of them work only on certain types of stretch marks.

Surgical procedures on the other hand, have proven to be the fastest and most effective way to eliminate stretch marks. However, not everyone can afford the price of costly surgery. And not all of those who can afford are willing to expose themselves to such a painful and risky procedure.

As mentioned earlier there are two main causes of stretch marks – weight gain and hormonal imbalances. 80% of women who have been pregnant have stretch marks. These scars are most visible in the stomach area where the skin has been stretched the most. Stretch marks also usually occur during puberty when one undergoes a sudden spurt growth. In some cases, stretch marks develop as a result of steroid use or a disease, which is known as Cushing’s. The extreme stretching of the skin caused by pregnancy, rapid weight or growth spurt,  damages the skin’s Elastin (a component of the skin that allows the skin to stretch and go back to its original form). The damage causes the skin fibers to tear and scar. The visible scars and discoloration of the skin are what we commonly know as stretch marks

Undoubtedly, there have been proven stretch mark removers. However, there are very few ways to completely eliminate the scars. But there are treatments that will help in significantly reducing its appearance.

1. The most effective method in keeping your skin stretch marks free is to prevent having it at all. Keep your skin moisturized at all times especially when pregnant, during puberty, or are in the process of muscle building. Apply creams or lotions that are rich in vitamin E, which helps in skin elasticity, and Aloe, which is proven to be the most effective ingredient in skin moisturization.

2. Skin exfoliation also helps significantly in reducing the appearance of stretch marks. In fact, if your scars are not that deep, exfoliating your skin to remove the dead cells may be able to eliminate stretch marks totally. Just make sure to moisturize every after exfoliation to keep the skin area supple.

3. The most effective and popular stretch mark creams available in the market today are those that contain cocoa butter. But instead of buying expensive cocoa butter creams, make use of pure natural cocoa butter and mix it with vitamin E. Apply the lotion at least 3 times daily and make it your daily regimen. For new stretch marks, its application can prove to be very effective. Unfortunately, this may not work as great for stretch marks that been there for a couple of years.

4. For old stretch marks and those that are quite deep, stretch mark creams may not be able to do the job. You might want to opt for laser surgery. Unlike cosmetic surgery, there is no pain associated in the process. Cosmetic lasers are known to stimulate the production of collagen. The collagen produced fills the scars bottom up. It will take a couple of visits to your dermatologist to complete the procedure. Nonetheless, from patients’ testimonials, laser surgery does not eliminate stretch marks 100%. But admittedly, it does work better than any stretch mark creams out there.

5. To completely eliminate stretch marks, or at least improve your skin’s appearance significantly, the most effective treatment to date is cosmetic surgery. Just like all kinds of surgery, there are risks associated with it and the cost itself can be quite disturbing to some. In the procedure, the skin is pulled taut to eliminate or at least reduce the appearance of the unsightly marks. If you do opt for this kind of treatment, make sure that you go to a reputable surgeon who has an impeccable track record and surgical history. There have been reported incidents that patients have gone to cheap doctors who have literally butchered their skin.

There definitely are effective stretch marks remover. The success of the treatment will depend on the intensity and depth of your scars. So, try treatments like lotions and creams first and see if they can reduce the appearance of your scars before opting for more drastic and costly treatments such as laser or cosmetic surgery.

Basically…I have a TON of stretch marks left over from my pregnancy. I didn’t even gain that much weight (only 45 pounds) and I did all of the preventative things that I could, but it turns out that I have a genetic predisposition to these lovely little marks. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried laser surgery to reduce the appearance of their stretch marks. I’m interested in giving it a try, but it is VERY expensive and I’ve heard that the results aren’t always the greatest. If anyone out there could give me some advice I would really appreciate it!
